Dr Hussain Contractor is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. He graduated his MBChB in 2001 with a Commendation from the University of Aberdeen and also graduated an Intercalated BSc in Molecular and Cell Biology (1st Class Hons) in 1999. After completing his SHO training in Australia and Bristol, Dr Contractor trained as an interventional cardiologist in Manchester. Completing a DPhil in 2012 at the University of Oxford in the field of ischemia-reperfusion injury and cardioprotective strategies, he has published widely in this field and remains active in cardiology research. In 2015 Dr Contractor gained the highly prestigious Boston Scientific Interventional Fellowship to Vancouver Island, Canada, where he completed his training. He has been a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Wythenshawe Hospital since 2016 where he specialises in complex angioplasty and chronic total occlusions. He has a strong interest in optimising strategies to optimise cardiac secondary preventive strategies and has led efforts in Greater Manchester to establish community-based clinics for long-term secondary prevention.
